The Australian Road Transport Suppliers Association (ARTSA) has elected Ian Bushby, Managing Director of DECA Training as its new Chairman for 2005. Ian has a long history in the industry including over 13 years with DECA Training.

"We have a big work program in front of us for 2005 and I am pleased to be able to lead our executive team that includes Deputy Chairmen Simon Humphries from Isuzu General Motors and Scott McFarlane from Hendrickson, with other executive members John Williamson - Marshall Lethlean, Mark Boon - Holland Hitch, Brian Thomas - Airbrake Corporation, Ian Wright - Ian Wright and Associates and Rob DiCristoforo from ARRB Transport Research", said Ian Bushby.

"In the last two years we have been able to produce industry guides to air suspension, performance based standards and load restraint. All are free as downloads from our website www.artsa.com.au. These guides are part of ARTSA's commitment as the technical resource to the road transport industry," said Ian. We also sponsor an annual student prize and have covered topics including wear on small diameter tyres, regenerative braking, and innovative urban rigid vehicles and now for 2005 a project on the characteristics of low pressure braking. We find the universities are well suited to undertaking these tasks and it also gives the students an appetite for the kinds of challenges and careers opportunities that exist in the road transport sector", he said.

For 2005, ARTSA has formed a heavy vehicle braking committee that is tackling the reform needed in this area. It is also addressing best practice application and use of air suspension systems. ARTSA also partners the ATA in the Technical and Maintenance Conference held each November in Melbourne.

"ARTSA is about doing things and producing results. Our last two years have shown some good results and we are stepping up with some more solid work in 2005" said the ARTSA Chairman.

ARTSA's next meeting will be held at the Brisbane Truck Show on Wednesday 11th May. For further details including future meetings go to the website www.artsa.com.au or contact its Executive Director, Rob Perkins on or on 03 9818 7899.
