    Important changes have recently occurred with the use of Tyre Monitoring Systems (TMS) and ARTSA-i and NBTA are holding an information session to provide details.

    • Vehicles & trailers in the EU must be equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system that supports a warning light in the dashboard of the vehicle.
    • WA has introduced guidance information for vehicles transporting ammonium nitrate that include tyre temperature monitoring equipment.

    ARTSA institute membership provides professional development through participation in ARTSA-i Technical Groups and networking with industry peers. The Couplings Technical Group meeting is at D'Angelo Engineering in Laverton North where there is a unique opportunity to see how heavy vehicle couplings are manufactured. A meeting on industry matters will include:

    • NHVR enforcement feedback & advice
    • setting up a working document on ADR62 changes
    • Issues around test facility availability
    • gaps in regulation, 
    • general discussion regarding NZ model regulation
    • unregulated grey imports.  
    • group discussion.

    Following the meeting is the inspection of the D'Angelo factory and a light lunch with your peers.

    Conducted by Dr Peter Hart, certification agent, forensic engineer, braking expert and former AVE. Participants will receive detailed information about heavy vehicle modifications for heavy trucks and trailers.

    Who should participate?

    OEM personnel, vehicle technicians, engineers such as Accredited Vehicle Examiners (AVEs), and regulators. The training will be of great benefit to industry personnel involved in modifications and the provision of replacement parts.

    Course Content:

    Introduction and Overview
    Australian regulatory framework and technical standards applicable to heavy vehicles. What are modifications and what are repairs ?
    Vehicle Standards Bulletins and Australian plant equipment codes.
    Good engineering principles for modification of heavy vehicles.
    Chassis ladder strength considerations for body attachment, towbar/coupling installation and load distribution (VSB Sections J, H & T)
    Mechanical couplings. Types, ratings and safety considerations. (VSB6 Section P).
    Axles, Wheels, Suspensions and steering (VSB 6 Sections D, E & F).

    Conducted by Dr Peter Hart, heavy vehicle braking expert and forensic engineer. Participants will receive detailed information about heavy vehicle braking and how to use the new Beta version of the ARTSA-i brake calculator which is free to use for accredited users that complete the training. All attendees must bring a laptop that links to the classroom Wifi.

    • Design Examples -Combination Vehicles

    • Advanced Calculator Techniques

    • Assessing satisfactory brake design

    • Brake system modifications including VSB 6 Section G requirements.
